Replace Your Kitchen Cabinets

If you are looking to update your kitchen, the most striking change you can make is by installing new cabinets. There is a wide selection of cabinet styles and colors to choose from and a number of options on how to outfit drawers. Not only will new cabinets improve the appearance of your kitchen but you will have more storage space than ever before and added convenience which will make cooking dinner much more fun.

There are three basic choices when considering the purchase of new kitchen cabinets. Stock cabinets, semi-custom cabinets and custom cabinetry. The stock cabinets are the most reasonably priced and are the ones that you will find in any home improvement store. You just have to bring in the dimensions of your kitchen and the store clerk will be able to put together a computer design for how to reconfigure your space. The store cabinets come in standard shapes and sizes and the clerk can help you manage your space. Because the width of the cabinets may not match the exact size of your room you may need special spacers to fill in the gaps.

Semi-custom cabinets are another option but will be more expensive than the stock cabinets. These are cabinets that are specially configured in a design shop just to fit your room. These cabinets give you a number of different design options and they are typically made of a finer grade of wood and the craftsmanship is a step up from the stock cabinets. Custom cabinets go one step beyond and offer the option of different transitions from cabinet to cabinet and will result in less lost space under the counter. If you go with the custom or semi-custom cabinets you can add a nice food pantry without having to try and stack stock cabinets on top of each other.

Once you have settled on the type of cabinets, it is time to figure out how many you will need and what type of cabinets you want. A mixture of glass panels on top with the traditional wood doors will add a very stylish effect. The cabinets which are installed under the counter need to be functional as well as good looking so choose ones which will offer the most storage. There are a wide variety of options that were not available when your current kitchen cabinets were made so be sure to take advantage of pull out drawers and storage baskets. They make organizing the kitchen so much easier.

The cabinet drawers can be configured in a number of different ways as well. Special inserts are not available for silverware but also now for organizing utensils and recipes. Creative designers have come up with unique ways to meet all the special demands of working in the kitchen. Ask about special book cases for recipe books and wine racks, not only will they make the kitchen function better but they add a stylish flare. Racks for wine glasses and plates also can be built right into your cabinet space making entertaining more convenient.
